Connecting people, ideas, and actions to advance health outcomes, equity, and systems

UBC Health brings together people and ideas from across the university and the health sector to strengthen collaborations in health education, research and health system improvement. We work through the Office of the Vice-President, Health, leading initiatives that support interdisciplinary partnerships, enhancing training and connecting research with policy and practice.

Our Mandate

We support inclusive collaborations across disciplines and faculties at UBC’s Vancouver and Okanagan campuses, as well as distributed sites across the province. We also collaborative with communities, institutions, and government partners, to ensure diverse perspectives inform our work. Our role continues to evolve as we move toward a more integrated approach to health education, research, and health systems transformation, reflected in the creation of a Centre for Innovation in Collaborative Health Education and Team-based Care.

We act as a neutral convenor, bringing people together and building on UBC’s strengths: its wide range of health-related programs, globally recognized research and deep expertise across many disciplines. As a unit dedicated to leading and supporting collaboration, we:
•    Foster interdisciplinary partnerships in education, research and health systems
•    Facilitate interprofessional education for health professional programs across the province
•    Supports team-based care to improve access to and quality of care
•    Engage patients and communities to shape priorities, learner experiences, and research
•    Strengthen connections between UBC and the health system to help drive meaningful change

Our Purpose

UBC Health was established in response to priorities identified by faculty, students, educators, health professionals, researchers, and community members along with a shared belief that the university has a vital role to play in improving health and health systems. Ongoing health challenges and inequities require collaborative solutions which are central to our work.

We complement efforts across UBC and the broader health sector by connecting people, knowledge and resources across disciplines. Our goal is to help strengthen education, research, and policy in ways that reflect the real needs of communities. We are guided by a vision and commitment to supporting provincial health priorities through an inclusive, equitable and collaborative approach to health education and research.

Our Approach

We move our strategic goals forward by working with partners both inside and outside the university. This includes supporting collaboration across UBC and building partnerships with organizations beyond campus. In some areas, we take the lead; in others, we support and amplify the work of faculties, schools, and departments that share UBC Health’s vision.
