Students learn value of collaborative practice

UBC Health supported the Health Student Caucus to develop and host an interprofessional health case competition, an engaging opportunity for health students to learn the value of interdisciplinary teamwork and collaborative practice.

The competition brought together students from different health disciplines—audiology, dentistry, dietetics, medicine, mental health and addictions, midwifery, nursing, occupational therapy, ophthalmology, pharmacy, physiotherapy, social work, and respiratory therapy—to work on a complex case study. The interdisciplinary teams prepared and presented their care plans to an audience of clinicians, academics, community members, and students and were evaluated on the quality of the management plan and level of team collaboration.

The competition harnessed the creativity and passion of students who will be future change agents in the health system.
