We are proud to share that Amanda Unruh (she/her), Substance Use & Addiction Partnership Manager at UBC Health has received The President's Staff Award for Wellbeing. Amanda is a leader and innovator in advancing student wellbeing and harm reduction initiatives at UBC. 

During her tenure at UBC, Amanda has played a crucial role in the effectiveness of Substance Use Community of Practice, coordinating responses to ever evolving substance use challenges. Through exemplary management of the Peer Health Educators program at UBC, Amanda has mentored and trained hundreds of student volunteers, and facilitated their growth as community leaders in peer-to-peer health education, on topics such as inclusive sexual health, decolonization, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. 

Amanda’s dedication to holistic student health is seen through her coordination of campus-wide initiatives such as the Thrive campaign and the Nurse on Campus program. Furthermore, her proactive approach to connecting students with funding and grant opportunities demonstrates her support for student-led initiatives and advocating for marginalized communities. 

Amanda’s work has not been limited to students however. She has facilitated many workshops and consultations with faculty and educators, to ensure student wellbeing is prioritized alongside curriculum delivery in the learning environment. Amanda has played a pivotal role in enhancing the sustainability and impact of student health services and wellbeing at UBC. We are blessed to have Amanda on our team.
