If you know an outstanding individual or team who demonstrates exceptional leadership in interprofessional collaboration, health education, or research, nominate them for a UBC Health scholarship or award!

The 2020 UBC Health scholarships and awards competition is now open. They recognize the academic and research excellence of students and faculty from various health disciplines at UBC as well as the achievements of health educators, professionals, and community partners across BC. 

Scholarships for UBC Students

These scholarships are available for current UBC students in any health or human services degree program:

  • ImpactBC Scholarships in Health Care Research and Development for students who have completed a research or development project focusing on patient/client involvement in healthcare decision-making or in health professional education. 
  • John H. V. Gilbert Interprofessional Scholarship for a student who combines academic excellence and demonstrated student leadership in interprofessional education for collaborative patient-centered practice. 
  • Professor Jessie Gordon MacCarthy Memorial Scholarship for a student who best combines academic excellence, demonstrated interest, and leadership in the field of community health.

Awards for UBC faculty

These awards are open to UBC faculty members to support innovation in health research and to recognize outstanding accomplishments in health research mentorship.

  • Health Innovation Funding Investment (HIFI) Awards catalyze health researchers to undertake innovative, possibly risky activities that have the potential to create change. Awards of $10,000 to $25,000 will be granted to faculty members who are collaborating across faculties, disciplines, and campuses to launch, develop, or translate innovative health-related research.
  • John McNeill Excellence in Health Research Mentorship Award recognizes outstanding mentorship by faculty members at any stage in their academic career in any of UBC’s health-related disciplines at the Vancouver campus.

Awards for health educators and partners

These awards are open to health educators, professionals, and community partners who have made significant contributions to the advancement of healthcare education and practice. Nominees may be from or outside of UBC. 

  • John F. McCreary Prize for Interprofessional Teamwork recognizes and promotes interprofessional teamwork in the health and human service professions. 
  • R. Paul Kerston Community Educator Award for community educators who have made a difference to student learning at UBC.

UBC Health works under the auspices of the Office of the Vice-President, Health to enhance interdisciplinary health education, research, and systems by fostering collaboration across disciplines and faculties at both UBC campuses, as well as with institutions and government organizations around the province.
