The TBC@UBC Network is excited to present this online session on "Transforming Primary Care Education: Lessons from the Evolution of Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres" in partnership with Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres on Thursday January 30, from 12 to 1:30pm.

This session explores the evolution and impact of Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC) initiative, launched in 2022 to address healthcare challenges in British Columbia. See below accordions for more information on TPCLC and the team members.

Focusing on interprofessional education and team-based care, the TPCLC initiative has progressed through phases 1.0, 1.5, and is currently planning phase 2.0. The session will highlight the pivotal shifts introduced in TPCLC 1.5, including enhanced interprofessional learning with the integration of nursing and health professional students. Attendees will gain insights on innovative strategies such as tailored resources for collaborative competencies and the "Day in the Life" model for immersive learning.

More Information about UBC Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC)

The UBC Team-Based Primary Care Learning Centres (TPCLC) initiative is led by a dynamic group of healthcare leaders, educators, and administrators dedicated to advancing interprofessional education and collaborative care. Co-led by Drs. Mark MacKenzie, Rob Petrella, Tina Webber, and Dr. Josh Greggain, the team brings together expertise in clinical teaching, research, and program development. Penny Cooper leads our project evaluation. Faculty development is supported by Drs. Christie Newton and Jacqueline Ashby, while Dr. Clayton Dyck provides clinic coaching.

The team’s work focuses on designing and implementing innovative team-based training models that address healthcare challenges such as physician shortages, burnout, and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration. Supported by our administrators Lua Lynch and Katelyn Giffin, the TPCLC team fosters a culture of continuous learning and practice improvement. Together, they are transforming primary care education in British Columbia, driving meaningful change in residents’ education and patient care.
