Collaborative Health Education

Integration 3.0

February 4, 2025, 11:30 am to 11:30 am

UBC-V | UBC-O | UNBC

Session Overview

The Integration 3.0 retreat is a collaborative event that brings together interprofessional education (IPE) leaders from across UBC’s programs and partners to envision the future of IPE at UBC.

Currently, UBC Health, in collaboration with UBC programs and the Centre for Excellence in Indigenous Health, delivers an Integrated Curriculum to support students in building team-based collaborative competencies. The Integrated Curriculum consists of interprofessional workshops and online modules embedded within the core curricula of health professional programs at UBC. Working in interprofessional groups, students across disciplines learn about complex areas of health and develop collaborative competencies in the key domains of:

  • Relationship-focused care/services
  • Role clarification and negotiation
  • Team communication
  • Team functioning
  • Team disagreements/difference processing
  • Collaborative leadership

The event will connect IPE leaders in Prince George, Kelowna, and Vancouver through a hybrid conference format. The session will begin with presentations from other Canadian universities about their approach to IPE, followed by a Q&A session and focused regional discussions about future directions for IPE at UBC. Lunch will be provided.

After the presentations, there will be a short break, and then participants will move into focus groups to discuss one of the following themed focus areas, identified by the Integration 2.0 (a pre-COVID UBC IPE symposia) and ongoing IC evaluations.

  • Focus group discussions will consider how IPE at UBC can be more flexible, practice-based, and regionally relevant and involve patient partners meaningfully in the development, delivery, evaluation or scholarship of IPE.
  • Focus group participants will engage in dialogue to envision innovative approaches to IPE that support their focus area and draft recommendations for implementing these approaches.

This event is by invitation only.
