The Office of the Vice-President, Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Cathy Kline as Assistant Director, Patient and Community Engagement at UBC Health, effective July 1, 2023.

Since joining UBC in 2003, Cathy has worked in the area of patient and community engagement, first as research coordinator in the former Division of Health Care Communication and later as research manager in Patient and Community Partnership for Education (PCPE) at UBC Health. Cathy has dedicated the past 20 years to advancing research and development initiatives that promote patient and public involvement in health professional education at UBC. Her work has involved collaborations with faculty, students, patients, community organizations, and international scholars in research and program development to integrate patient expertise and experience into mainstream educational practice.

In the newly created role of Assistant Director, Patient and Community Engagement, UBC Health, Cathy will continue to work closely with the directors of PCPE to provide leadership for operationalizing strategic plan objectives related to patient and community engagement. She will build capacity for sustainable patient and community partnerships by developing and leading strategies to advance the inclusion of people with lived experience throughout UBC Health’s core areas of collaborative health education, interdisciplinary health research, and health systems.

Cathy will continue to work closely with partners in the community and across the UBC campuses to bring the university closer to the people it serves to enhance the university’s social responsibility and accountability. She will lead new initiatives in collaboration with university and community partners from across British Columbia to advance diverse patient and community perspectives in the academy.
